How to Send Free SMS from Gmail ?

FREE is the buzz-word for the net-savvy Indian youth especially students. They would go for everything to get free on internet. If you are one of them, here is a tip to reduce your mobile phone bill!

You can send SMS messages to your contacts’ mobile phones using Gmail Chat or Google Talk (GTalk). In order to use this feature you have to enable the SMS (text messaging) in Chat lab.

How does it work?
  1.  Enter your contact’s name in the ‘Search or invite friends’ box in Chat
  2. Select Send SMS from the box of options that appears to the right of your contact’s name. Or, if you already have a Chat window open for this contact, just click Options, and select Send SMS.
  3.  Click Save.(A Chat window appears. )
  4.  Just type your message .
  5.  Hit Enter

SMS credit in Chat

You can send free fifty messages a day . Every time you send a message, your credit decreases by one. Every time you receive an SMS message in Chat (for example when a phone user replies to one of your messages) your credit increases by five, up to a maximum of 50. If your SMS credit goes down to zero at any point, it will increase back up to one 24 hours later. To get more message credits, send an SMS to your own phone, and then reply to that message multiple times. Every time you send a reply message, your SMS credit is increased by five.
